Day 4&5: Bahamian Bliss
After three hectic, jam-packed, fun-filled days at Disney it was nice to slow down the pace a bit for our trip to the Bahamas. At this point in our trip we knew to expect to be ‘nickled and dimed’ at every corner, so taking this in stride we were able to enjoy ourselves. The staff on board the boat were fantastic…they went out of their way to serve us. Our waiter was humourous and entertaining, bartenders chatty and housekeeping even turned our towels into animals (see below). Despite the boat ending up at Freeport and not Nassau we still enjoyed our one day in the Bahamas.
First we went window shopping and to a large extent avoided buying tacky souvenirs (my father’s ugly beach sandals excepted). Next we did the obligatory Rum Runner/Bahama Mama/Pina Colada in a coconut. Finally my sister and I went on a 2 hour snorkeling tour. Despite my father’s sage advise that snorkeling wasn’t as easy as it looks we went anyways. After about 10 mins of spluttering and laughing we finally figured out how to breathe properly. For about 45 mins we enjoyed the coral reef and the abundance of fish. Despite our best efforts to touch the schools of fish…we failed, but enjoyed ourselves enormously. We made it back to the boat in time for its 5pm departure back to Fort Lauderdale. My mother and sister had their hair and nails done for the captains dinner and champagne reception. We closed out the evening enjoying the breeze on the pool deck drinking more Bahama Mamas.
To ensure we got our monies worth at the end of the trip we made it a Ross-cation. A inside joke between my sister and I referring to Ross from the TV show Friends taking everything possible upon leaving hotels. We kept all of our tacky hurraine and shot glasses!
